Donte West Advocates for Yes on 820 Vote in Oklahoma and Pushes Millennials For Early Vote
Donte West‘s advocacy work extends to promoting a Yes on 820 vote in Oklahoma and continuing his advocacy for decriminalization and anti-incarceration. West is passionate about promoting criminal justice reform and believes that passing State Question 820, which proposes the legalization of adult-use recreational marijuana in Oklahoma, is an important step towards ending the unjust system.
West is currently in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where he uses his story to influence others on the importance of voting Yes on 820. He has spoken to local organizations, and community groups about the impact that the criminal justice system can have on individuals and communities and how legalizing marijuana can help address systemic racism in the criminal justice system.
“I believe that passing State Question 820 is an important step towards creating a more just and equitable society,” West says. “We will fight for the people that don’t have a voice as they have a chance at re-sentencing on March 7.”
He is also continuing his work with the Last Prisoner Project, a non-profit organization dedicated to securing the release of individuals who are serving time in prison for nonviolent cannabis offenses. The organization is supported by notable board members like B Real, Fab 5 Freddy, Calvin Johnson, Damian & Stephen Marley, Master P, and M1.
“This gentleman that I met from the Last Prisoner Project, he fought his case from inside of there and got out. And he told me that he was going to reach back in and help get me out, which he did,” Kyle Paige says about Donte West in an article for the Cannabis Business Times. “He got me out in time to be home for Christmas for my family. It was amazing. My daughter was 12 years old when I got incarcerated; she was 18 when I got released. So, I missed so much of her life.”
In addition to his advocacy work, West has launched his brand of cannabis product called West. The brand is currently on shelves in Missouri, another state that has recently legalized adult-use recreational marijuana. The brand offers a range of high-quality cannabis flower.
Donte is also awaiting the opening of his dispensary in Jersey City, where he has been awarded a conditional license. He also has a license pending in his hometown of Stockton, CA. The dispensaries will provide high-quality cannabis products to the community and create job opportunities for local residents.
