Diddy Alleged of Obstructing Justice While Locked Up by Prosecutors
Sean “Diddy” Combs is being accused of trying to obstruct justice while he’s in jail by the prosecutors in his case.
In a recent federal court filing in Manhattan on Friday (Nov. 15), Diddy’s accused of trying to reach out to potential witnesses and influence the opinion of the public to impact the possible jurors in his upcoming sex trafficking trial.
Prosecutors wrote in the filing that they reviewed Diddy’s recorded jail calls in which he asked family members to reach out to potential witnesses and victims to create “narratives” that influence the pool of jurors.
“The defendant has shown repeatedly — even while in custody — that he will flagrantly and repeatedly flout rules in order to improperly impact the outcome of his case,” reads the complaint. “The defendant has shown, in other words, that he cannot be trusted to abide by rules or conditions.”
Not only do prosecutors believe that Diddy wants to blackmail witnesses and victims in the case to either be silent or provide helpful testimony for him, they also believe that he’s been breaking these rules from around the time that he was initially detained in September.
Earlier this month, Diddy’s legal team filed for the judge to “immediately restrain” out of court statements from potential witnesses and their attorneys.
In their filing, his lawyers argued that Diddy’s “Right to a fair trial” is being compromised but what they say is “improper pretrial publicity.”
“Over the past several days, a grand jury witness and his attorney have given multiple interviews – including outside the courthouse immediately following his apparent grand jury testimony – making false and outrageous claims, including that the witness possesses videos of [Diddy] involved in the sexual assault of celebrities and minors,” lawyers wrote in the filing — referencing the claims of Courtney Burgess.
“This grand jury witness claims that he was subpoenaed after he made public statements on social media that he possessed videos of celebrities, including minors, being sexually assaulted.”
The subpoena also comes on the heels of his attorney’s statements that she had been asked to ‘shop a particular video’ and contact a celebrity ‘in the video to see if they were interested in purchasing the video before it became public knowledge.’”
Back in September, Diddy was charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation for purposes of prostitution. If convicted as charged, both the racketeering and sex trafficking counts carry possible maximum sentences of life behind bars. Diddy has pleaded not guilty to these charges. He’s currently facing more than 120 new lawsuits filed in the time since, as well.
