Big Sean Gets Introspective on Sixth Album ‘Better Me Than You’

Big Sean takes his rightful place among hip-hop veterans on his sixth album, Better Me Than You.

Featuring singles “On Up” and The Alchemist-produced “Together Forever,” Better Me Than You marks Big Sean’s follow-up to 2022 album Detroit 2.

In an emotional moment of reflection earlier this week, Sean Don expressed gratitude to his mother, Myra Anderson, who encouraged him to finish the album.

“I appreciate my mom for being that guardian angel always giving me that advice. She really talked me through it for real,” he said. “Like I said, I haven’t been sleeping a lot. I been giving this shit my all. I’m burned the fuck out. I’m tired. I do do this shit for the people that fuck with me.”

Better Me Than You had a slight two-week pushback, which Big Sean explained in a viral clip with some help from TikToker Jordan Howlett.

Sean’s rollout for his latest project has been extensive, from the rapper performing a NPR Tiny Desk Concert in May to prepping fans for his first self-help book, Go Higher.

“Besides the music, another project that’s been years in the making and it’s finally time. I can’t even believe it for real,” he said in a promotional video. “But anyone who know me since I signed my record deal knows if you look at my old YouTubes I’ve always been about speaking from the heart, following your intuition and checking in with yourself mentally. Because that’s how I was raised.”

Next week, Complex LA will be hosting an exclusive pop-up on Thursday, Sept. 5, offering fans the opportunity to shop the album and exclusive merchandise including a collaboration with Billionaire Boys Club. For more information, click here.
