ASAP Rocky Juror Claims Jury Believed the Gun Was Real But Still Voted to Acquit Him

A juror for ASAP Rocky’s trial says the jury believed he had a real gun but did not have enough evidence to convict him.

On Tuesday, the 36-year-old rapper was found not guilty in his assault with a semiautomatic firearm case. He had been accused of assaulting former friend ASAP Relli, who claimed Rocky pulled out a gun and shot at him in a 2021 confrontation in Los Angeles.

Outside of the courtroom in downtown Los Angeles, blogger Nique at Nite spoke to an unidentified juror through a YouTube livestream following the verdict.

“Everybody was really focused on delivering justice,” the juror explained. “I think that we really took our time. We discussed all the issues, all the questions that we had, we clarified those, we really kind of looked over some pieces of the evidence that people wanted to see a little bit more closely. And I think that we did the best we could with the instructions that we had, and with the evidence that we had.”

When asked about the atmosphere when deciding on a verdict, the juror explained that the jury held a preliminary poll but still had some unanswered questions.

“I think we kind of were almost at the verdict [but] we had a couple of people, including myself, who … still had some questions and we were all thinking that a crime had been committed,” she said. “But the thing is with the instructions we had and with the law that we didn’t think that was enough evidence to commit.”

Last month, Rocky rejected a plea deal and his defense argued for the first time that the gun he allegedly used during the Nov. 2021 altercation was a “prop gun” for security purposes and not a loaded semiautomatic pistol.

The juror revealed that most of the jury believed that the alleged gun was real.

“I think most of us felt it was a gun. Just from the behavior on the videos and from some of the testimony,” she told Nique at Nite. “Unfortunately, a lot of the witnesses—we didn’t consider all of their testimonies to be reliable.”

She continued, “I didn’t really believe it. I didn’t think that … they had really convincing evidence that it was a prop gun. It was kind of a little mysterious the way it disappeared, and they couldn’t produce it as evidence. So some of the testimony did not sound accurate or truthful.”

Meanwhile, Rihanna used her social media to share a message thanking God for the not guilty verdict. “THE GLORY BELONGS TO GOD AND GOD ALONE!” she wrote. “THANKFUL, HUMBLED, BY HIS MERCY
