Aminé Shares New Single “Familiar” From Forthcoming Album
Aminé is back with new music.
The Portland-born rapper returned Friday (March 14) with his much-anticipated single, “Familiar.” The track — produced by Buddy Ross, Jim-E Stack, Loukeman, and Pasqué — also received the video treatment, which is set to premiere later today. He teased the releases in a series of Instagram photos and videos, including a March 5 post confirming a new project.
“Album time,” he captioned a snippet of the “Familiar” video. He also tweeted that the song is from his new album.
The project will mark Aminé’s first solo effort since the 2021 mixtape TWOPOINTFIVE and his first studio album since 2020’s Limbo. In 2024, the “Caroline” artist teamed up with Kaytranada on Kaytraminé, a collaborative project that featured everyone from Pharrell Williams and Big Sean to Freddie Gibbs and Snoop Dogg.
Aminé has not revealed the name of his forthcoming album or an official drop date, but he has expressed excitement over what he has in store for fans. He touched on the project in a 2024 interview with Hypebeast, explaining how it differs from his recent releases.
“There’s not much I can say, because when you try to explain sounds, it’s never as good as the actual song,” he said. “It also increases expectations. I can say that I’m really, really excited about it. It’s something that I’ve been working on even before KAYTRAMINÉ, over a few years at a very slow pace.”
He continued: “I want to grow as an artist and a songwriter, and become the person I want to be over the next 10 years. That’s what I’ve been thinking about regarding this upcoming album, because it’s my third studio album. TWOPOINTFIVE and KAYTRAMINÉ were really more like mix tapes and side projects I was doing to fill time and to give people what they wanted after Limbo.”
You can stream “Familiar” now on Apple Music and Spotify.
