Alofoke Says ‘Future of Music’ at Heart of Sony Deal That ‘Opens the Door for New Generations’
Alofoke Music, the hugely influential label founded by Santiago “Alofoke” Matías, has announced what’s being billed as a “long-term partnership” with Sony Music Central America and the Caribbean (CAC), a subsidiary of Sony Music Entertainment.
In a statement shared with Complex, Matías pointed to a “shared vision” he says is at the heart of this new collaboration.
“This alliance is the result of a shared vision rooted in innovation and legacy, with our eyes firmly set on the future of music,” Matías said. “Partnering with Sony Music not only validates the years of work we’ve poured into building a platform for talent, it also opens the door for new generations to break barriers and take their sound to global audiences.”
Per press notes, the deal sees Sony Music CAC serving as the “exclusive distributor” for all future Alofoke Music drops. Additionally, Sony Music CAC has acquired previously released Alofoke Music titles. Moving forward, the aim is to continue supporting Latin talent, with an emphasis on a new generation of artists. A pair of newly Sony Music CAC-aligned releases are on the horizon, with additional info on those projects slated to be revealed in the coming days.
“We’re thrilled to join forces with Alofoke, who is a monumental figure in the music and media space in the Dominican Republic and beyond,” Melissa Exposito, Sony Music CAC president, said this week.
Tuesday night, the deal was celebrated with a special event in Miami, complete with a Q&A session led by Jose Nova, Head of Latin at Complex.
