Tony Yayo Cites ‘Women,’ ‘Drugs,’ and ‘Addiction’ When Explaining Why Rappers Can Never Have ‘Peace’

Tony Yayo broke down the hardships of finding “peace” as a rapper on the new episode of podcast Club Shay Shay.

On the Shannon Sharpe-hosted podcast on Wednesday (September 10), the G-Unit member shared that his crew, including frontman 50 Cent, used to “move militant.”

“It was a time where there was guns everywhere,” Yayo said. “It’s very tough. To this day I watch my back, because being an artist is a tough thing.”

When asked if he can find peace, Yayo replied, “I think being a rapper, you never have your peace, man.”

“I think that’s just the life of a rapper. You’re never gonna have your peace,” he continued. “There’s gonna be obstacles. There’s gonna be women, there’s gonna be drugs, there’s gonna be gambling addiction, car addiction, jewelry addiction, keeping up with the Joneses.”

Yayo added that he doesn’t care “about all that shit” due to the rapper lifestyle being “all about image.” “That shit all fake,” he continued. “I pray to God everyday. He makes sure I’m good.”

The rapper also reflected on profound words from Dave Chappelle, who infamously declined to continue his 2000s Comedy Central show after three seasons. “The realest shit Dave Chappelle ever told me: I said, ‘Yo, why you turning down all that money?'” Yayo recalled. “‘God said my belly full.’ That was the realest shit I ever heard from somebody.”

Yayo explained that he felt like a “sponge” soaking up game among the likes of Mike Tyson, who encouraged him to “expand your horizons” and try caviar. The artist and hype man also named The Kardashians and Wesley Snipes as other famous names he’s been around, with the experiences feeling like “a billion dollars.”

One of the most dangerous feuds that G-Unit had was with Diddy, and the rapper told DJ Vlad last month that 50 Cent began carrying a firearm in cas he ran into the music executive.

“At that point, n****s would’ve got eradicated,” Yayo said in the video below. “C’mon, bro. We had bulletproof trucks, like, we like guns, too. When it come to 50 and us, we beef with the best of ‘em.”
