Cardi B Responds to Lawyer Asking If Her Hair Is Real During Court Appearance: ‘They’re Wigs’

News flash: Cardi B wears wigs, if you can’t tell. A lawyer in Los Angeles got the rapper to confirm that during a recent court appearance.

On Tuesday, Cardi took the stand in a civil trial in which she’s been accused of a 2018 assault. In footage of her speaking to a lawyer while being questioned that hit the internet on Aug. 26, the rapper found herself confirming details about her hair to a lawyer.

“Yesterday, you had black hair, short hair. Today it’s blond and long,” plaintiff’s lawyer Ron Rosen observed. “Which one is your real hair, or are they both real?”

Instead of immediately answering, Cardi looked at the lawyer as if she were wondering whether he was serious about the random question—then she laughed before responding. “They’re wigs,” she said with a smile.

The lawyer laid a compliment on before continuing. “It’s a good wig then,” he said. Moving on, he asked her if she was affiliated with a gang (an objection led to the end of that line of questioning) and inquired about how long it would take her to change her nails to being three inches long.

The lawyer questioning Cardi B in Los Angeles frustrated Judge Ian Fusselman by asking irrelevant questions and ignoring his guidance to stay on topic.

On Aug. 25, Cardi was in the courtroom as the accuser in the case, Emani Ellis, took the stand and explained the alleged incident that happened while she worked as a security guard at an obstetrics and gynecology facility in Beverly Hills.

“I said something along the lines of ‘That looks like Cardi B’ or ‘Wow, that’s Cardi B,’” Ellis said. According to Ellis, Cardi “turned back around” after the elevator encounter, at which point she allegedly asked, “Why the fuck are you telling people that you see me?”

At the time, Ellis further alleged, she “tried to calm her down and assure her that I didn’t tell anyone that I’d seen her” but Cardi, in her words, remained “extremely upset.”

Ellis claimed that she sustained a cut to her face from Cardi’s fingernail, which she estimated to be ‘about two to three inches long’ at the time. Ellis testified that Cardi attempted to swing at her (but didn’t connect), engaged in alleged ‘body-shaming’ and ‘racial slurs,’ and spat on her.

Cardi’s legal team has disputed the allegations.
