Premiere: Rap Riser Rigga Shares Visuals For New Single “GENGAR”
Meet Rigga, fka STAY READY. Or, as some of his boxing fans will know him: Jerome Campbell.
A former championship boxer, Rigga is a rising rapper from North-West London who, for the past 12 months, has been honing on his new craft while introducing his old boxing fans to his musical side with captivating freestyles and loosies, proving that one person can indeed possess more than one talent.
As he gears up to release his debut project, Off The Rip, next month, Rigga is today premiering the visuals for its lead single, “GENGAR”. Produced by Cervo, if there was one word to describe the track, it would simply be: London.
“I was actually rapping before I was boxing,” Rigga tells Complex. “I feel like the main difference was: boxing invites outsiders, whereas I always felt like music was a sort of gate-kept community where, unless you had access or an invite into the industry, it’s crazy difficult to navigate. This was before the streaming era so it was a lot harder to get your material heard.
“I was rapping and writing lyrics from when I was, like, 12 years old; I’ve always had a passion for music and maintained the art of writing throughout my boxing career, but never pursued music alongside it due to the dedication and attention boxing requires. So when I decided that I wanted to walk away from boxing, I think music was just a natural transition for me. I don’t really know how to explain it but it just feels like I can be myself now—I feel at home in front of a microphone.”
Rigga is excited for things to come. “2025 feels like a breakthrough year for me,” he says. “I’m starting it off with the ‘GENGAR’ drop, which is the first single off of my debut project, Off The Rip. I plan to follow that up with more visuals to the other singles I’m dropping off the project with my main focus this year being to remain consistent. True to this, I’ve got plans to drop two more individual bodies of work and a few collaborative projects this year. Stay tuned.”
