SZA Would ‘Love’ to Make a Kendrick Lamar Joint Album
SZA hints that a collaborative album with Kendrick Lamar could become a reality for their longtime fans.
The artists have been known for being featured on songs with each other ever since Kendrick was on the Top Dawg Entertainment roster, so during her recent appearance on Sherri, SZA answered whether she’d drop a joint LP with Kendrick.
“I would love that,” SZA began. I would love that! I think that would be amazing. He’s such a genius.”
“And part of his genius is him being so elusive and so mysterious, and I love it. I don’t know what’s going on as much as you don’t know what’s going on,” she continued.
The four-time Grammy winner shared insights into the creative process behind their GNX tracks “Gloria” and “Luther.”
“When “Luther” came on, I said, ‘Okay, that’s the vocals we’re using, period,’’and same with “Gloria”–I said, ‘Okay,’ and I love that,” she said.
SZA continued: “He’s a huge part of my fumble and finding era because I’m just trusting all of his expertise and being thrust into these moments and spotlight and saying yes, and he’s so good at saying yes but staying grounded, so I’m just like, ‘Teach me, sensei, what you know.'”
In April, the artists will embark on the Grand National Tour, their first stadium trek. SZA said that she wants to “tap into the cosplay of it all” and “get lost in the moment,” citing the likes of Janet Jackson and Beyoncé as influences.
Along with their new GNX songs and throwbacks like “All the Stars” and “Doves in the Wind,” Kendrick appears on the recently released LANA track “30 for 30.”
