El DeBarge, His Daughter React to Kendrick and SZA’s “30 For 30”

Eldra “El” DeBarge and his daughter shared a touching moment with SZA and Kendrick Lamar‘s new song “30 for 30,” which samples a song by the singer’s older brothers.

On Sunday, El’s daughter Bobbie Monique shared a video in which she dances with her father to SZA and Kendrick’s new collaboration. “30 for 30” samples “I Call Your Name” by Switch, which Bobby and Tommy DeBarge were members of before joining their family band.

In the clip, Bobbie Monique calls her father over to hear “30 for 30,” which she says samples her “Uncle Bobby.” According to Bobbie Monique, El would love the record, which he confirms by busting a move alongside his daughter.

“They paid homage. It’s beautiful,” Bobbie Monique said as she hit a routine with her dad.

The fun was short-lived, though, as Bobbie Monique said her dad had to be on stage within 30 minutes.

“30 for 30” is featured on SZA’s new deluxe album Lana, which arrived on Friday. It is a re-issue of her 2022 Grammy-nominated project SOS.

The only guest feature on the album comes from K.Dot on “30 for 30,” which is the rapper’s eighth collaboration with SZA. “I Call Your Name” has been sampled several times in hip-hop, with the most popular coming from Rich Boy’s 2007 viral hit “Throw Some D’s” featuring Polow Da Don.
