Lil Durk Says He ‘Ain’t a Felon Anymore’ After Criminal Record Is Cleared: ‘Everybody Should Get Second Chances’
Lil Durk is grateful for the “second chance” he’s received in his life, telling fans over the weekend that everyone should be given the same opportunity for change.
On Sunday (Sept. 22), Durk, who was among those assembled by Ye for his and Ty Dolla Sign’s two Vultures volumes this year, made sure to tuck in a “praise be to God” when celebrating the latest step in his personal journey.
“Everybody should get second chances at life,” he told fans on X. “It’s about what you do with it. Alhamdulillah! My background wiped and clean of all cases. I ain’t a felon anymore. Who would have thought? I want to thank everyone who helped push my vision forward. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.”

Among the legal issues Durk, 31, has faced during his career are since-dismissed charges related to a 2019 shooting incident initially alleged to have also involved the late King Von. After a review of the case, per an eventual motion to dismiss from the office of Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, a decision was made to decline prosecution.
“I am glad that the charges from three plus years ago have been dismissed,” Manny Arora, an attorney for Durk in that case, told Complex back in October 2022. “While it is unfortunate that it took so long to reach the conclusion that we had argued from day one, I’m glad that all involved can now move on.”
Durk had maintained his innocence in that particular case from the very beginning of its media attention, at one point telling reporters he had “nothing to hide.”
Back in June, Durk shared a moment of vulnerability with a paparazzo in Malibu, saying he wanted to “embrace” his position as someone who could speak from personal experience about the benefits of sobriety. Before starting his own journey, Durk pointed out, he he was “letting the drugs take over me,” with codeine and Xanax both mentioned as among the substances he previously abused.
