Environmental Investigation Launched Against Katy Perry in Spain Over Unauthorized “Lifestyles” Music Video Shoot
Katy Perry single “Woman’s World” received lackluster reviews, but her promotional move for new single “Lifetimes” might be her most controversial yet.
The STILLZ-directed music video was filmed in Ibiza and Formentera, but segments of the visual show the pop singer and extras on the uninhabited and privately-owned island of S’Espalmador. Considered one of Spain’s most scenic and ecologically prosperous locations, the island made for some nice shots in “Lifetimes,” but the unauthorized usage of protected dunes caused a conflict within the Environment Department of the Balearic Islands.
On Tuesday (Aug. 13), the department published a release that expressed “this is a crime for environmental infringement” due to the unauthorized production, but will not be considered a “crime against the environment, since the filming of photographic reports or videos.”
While much of the video’s first half shows Perry and friends on the island, swimming, smoking and boating, the latter portion mainly sees Perry in a nightclub.
“Lifetimes” and “Woman’s World” are slated to be on Perry’s upcoming seventh studio album, 143, set to release on September 20. With both singles produced by Dr. Luke, some fans have been weary about supporting Perry, as Dr. Luke was sued for physical and sexual abuse by pop singer Kesha in 2014. Although Dr. Luke would countersue, the two would eventually reach a settlement in June 2023.
