By Land soars on "Half of Us" –
Sweden has been on the cutting edge of pop music for many a decade, with the likes of ABBA and more recently, femme fatale Robyn setting the bar for the world to follow. With poppier sounds reaching every genre imaginable, Sweden has its fair share of indie-pop too, with By Land, who to friends is Björn Lindberg, finessing the lo-fi bedroom pop aesthetic, which is very much a sound of the moment.
Siphoning thoughts through his amber-hued palette of sounds, Lindberg creates music as a form of escapism and “Half of Us” is just that. Sonically, it comes across like the perfect soundtrack to a lazy, yet introspective summer’s afternoon, with the lyrics and visual playfully toying with both sides of the emotional spectrum. Speaking to both the song and video email with , Linberg stated, “The song is about breaking up with the crowd in my head, finding my own directions and throwing a balloon party with myself,” a concept taken quite literally in the video.
