See Jon Lovitz as Alan Dershowitz, Adam Driver as Jeffrey Epstein in 'SNL' Hell Cold Open

In ’s first episode of the 2020s, the show brought back a beloved cast member from the late-1980s as Jon Lovitz portrayed Trump lawyer in the cold open sketch.

In the sketch, Beck Bennett’s Mitch McConnell gives Senator Susan Collins (Cecily Strong) a preview of the president’s impeachment defense. Lovitz, an SNL favorite from 1985 to 1990 and Number 19 on Rolling Stone’s list of SNL cast members, then trotted out onstage.

“It’s wonderful to be here, because I’m not welcome anywhere else,” Lovitz’s Dershowitz said. “A lot of haters out there for no good reason. But it’s like I said to my client and dear friend Jeffrey Epstein, haters gonna hate!”

Midway through his practiced defense — during which he mentioned former clients like O.J. Simpson and Claus von Bulow — Dershowitz suffered a heart attack and goes to Hell where Satan, played by Kate McKinnon, is a big fan and eager to meet him. The devil then revealed her motive for temporarily claiming the lawyer’s soul: She wants him as a guest on her podcast.

“Is there anyone wouldn’t represent?” Satan asked.

“As long as a client is famous enough to get me on TV, it’s all good,” Dershowitz admitted.

Midway through the chat, Jeffrey Epstein — played by SNL host — stopped by to greet his friend Dershowitz. “It’s good to see you, what are you doing here?” Dershowitz asked. “Just hanging,” Epstein said. “I gotta say, I love what you’ve been doing for the president. All we get down here is Fox News and it’s been a joy to see you work.”

Dershowitz responded, “I wish you could have been there in person.”

“Yeah, it’s too bad I was murdered,” Epstein said.

Other Hell denizens include the writer of “Baby Shark,” Flo the insurance spokeswoman, the recently deceased Mr. Peanut (voiced by Jon Mulaney), IT guy Mark Zuckerberg and McConnell, who just visits to use it as a sauna.
