Travis Scott has kept his lips zipped for quite some time about Astroworld, his highly anticipated third studio album slated for release this Friday. The project has been discussed for months, as Scott revealed the inspiration behind the album’s name during his 2017 Rolling Stone interview from a currently defunct amusement park he used to visit as a child.
The Texas-bred rapper FaceTimed with Zane Lowe on Monday (July 30), the same day he released his trippy Astroworld trailer that featured a snippet of “Stargazing,” one of the tracks from Astroworld that has been circling SoundCloud for a while.
“Astroworld’s been set in stone since Rodeo,” Scott said in the interview. “My whole idea was if you locked in to Rodeo, you definitely locked into Astroworld. I’m just finishing the saga I started on my first album. This is supposed to be my second album. I had to go quick, because like I said, I had all these ideas, I just had to get off real quick, but now I’m finally back home with Astroworld.”
Scott was heading over to meet with Mike Dean during the FaceTime call, an American hip-hop producer who helped tease the album’s release on social media earlier last week. When Lowe asked if the album had yet to be finished, Scott confirmed Astroworld was complete, but that he and Dean “go all the way into the final day.”
The album is finally coming together, and everyone will be fed as promised. “The kids -- they hungry, and I’m hungry too, man,” he said. There’s a roller coaster of sounds coming listeners’ way with Astroworld, but Scott wants to feel comfortable and happy with his end product.
Something else he’s producing? .WAV Radio, again. His Beats 1 show is “definitely coming back,” according to Scott who first hosted the show in August 2016. He and his DJ, Chase B, will be dropping unreleased songs that he was working on during the album. “I’m at that point where it’s time to unleash anything I was working on, or any feel, anything inspired me for the album.... It’s about to be a vibe.”
