Earlier this week, DJ Khaled earned the first No. 1 record his 11-year career when “I'm The One,” his star-studded single featuring Justin Bieber, Chance The Rapper, Quavo and Lil Wayne, debuted at the very top the Billboard Hot 100.
Having a No. 1 record is certainly an incredible feat for any artist (or DJ), but in the age increased song streaming and decreased iTunes downloads, what does a No. 1 mean in terms revenue generation?
According to HDD's Buzz Angle Music-powered Song Revenue Chart, “I'm The One” generated $337,530 in revenue in its first seven days, which includes $180,795 from 31,442,658 streams and $156,735 from 172,236 digital sales. It's important to note that the stream total does not include YouTube views, as “I'm The One,” as this writing, has produced a whopping 107M views in 14 days.
Given that singles very rarely generate more than $300k in revenue in any one week—Kendrick recently accomplished this same feat with “HUMBLE.,” which, incredibly, generated $230,801 in revenue last week, six weeks after it was released—DJ Khaled and the Epic Records brass is certainly doing the happy dance (or whatever move Bieber is doing between the hedges).
